IDP Muslim families to be resettled

Four-hundred Internally displaced Muslim families will be resettled soon in their original lands in the Salampaikulam village in Pampaimadu, Vavuniya, Northern Province Governor Maj. Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri said.

The Governor told the Sunday Observer that "most of these families had been displaced nearly twenty years ago because of LTTE atrocities. The new statistics and data we are gathering show that in several villages in Vavuniya there have been many Sinhala and Muslim residents living in harmony with the Tamil majority".

The majority of settlers in the Salampaikulam village were Muslims.

The Muslim families are prepared to be resettled in the Salampaikulam village after the Ramazan festival and all efforts have been taken by Government officials to meet this deadline, the Governor said.
