Ambulance boat from Cey-Nor

The Government-owned Cey-Nor Foundation has built and commissioned an ambulance boat mainly targeting the North-East and the export market. This is the first time an ambulance boat had been manufactured in Sri Lanka

This is subsequent to an order they received from an NGO, Medical Team International. "We built and delivered the boat in less than one month," said Cey-Nor Foundation Chairman, Rohan Jayasinghe.

He said that the boat would have two beds, medi-care equipment and a medical team of four on board. "We can even make a mini hospital" he said. Special techniques and modifications are put in place to minimise jerks in the sea.

A similar boat is used by another NGO and it had been imported at a cost of around Rs. 15 million. "We are providing this boat for less than Rs. 5 million," he added. He said they would initially seek to secure orders from the Maldives and Bangladesh and then look at the European market.
