Cambrians home for tea

Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa beat more fancied and formidable D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya by nine wickets and home for tea in their inter-school under-19 cricket match played at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo.

Homesters batting first were shot out for a paltry 82 runs with Malshan Mendis ripping through their strong batting line up with 7 for 43. In reply Cambrians declared at 281 for 8 with Isuru Thilina scoring a brilliant 116 runs which included thirteen fours and occupying the creased for 218 minutes and facing 155 deliveries. He was ably supported by last year's skipper Buddhika de Alwis who contributed 54 runs.

In their second essay Wijerama lads did well to score 227 runs with Chamod Wickramasinghe unlucky to miss a well deserved century by eight runs. Once again Buddhika de Alwis reformed with the ball to capture 4 for 68. Visitors notched up the required runs for the loss of one wicket with Kasun Fernando unbeaten on 24 runs.

PWC: 281 for 8 dec. in 64 overs (Isuru Thilina 116, Buddhika de Alwis 54, Nuwantha Peiris 36 not out, Mohamed Ijaz 2 for 37, Malshan Gunasinghe 2 for 82) and 30 for 1 (Kasun Fernando 24 not out).
