Standard Chartered celebrates world environment day
In celebration of World Environment Day, Standard Chartered Sri Lanka
partnered with the Colombo Municipal Council to clean-up the
Viharamahadevi park and assist in planting trees in the park.
The Bank’s Global Head of Consumer Banking, Steve Bertamini and the
Mayor of Colombo Omar Kamil participated together with volunteers of the
Bank’s Staff.
The Bank has a volunteer policy where each employee is encouraged to
spend two days per year on paid leave supporting a community initiative.
In lieu of World Environment Day over 20 Standard Chartered Bank
staff helped the Municipal Council workers to begin efforts to clean up
the rain water drainage network within the park.
Staff volunteers also helped weed and replant flower beds, collect
garbage in the park and plant and sponsor over 50 Ehela Trees.
Bertamini attending this special event and on his first visit to Sri
Lanka said, ‘World Environment Day is a great opportunity to illustrate
our commitment to positive action. I’m proud to see the enthusiasm of
our employees to do their part on this day.
Standard Chartered Sri Lanka has been actively involved in
environmental protection initiatives through which the Bank has helped
to raise awareness of climate change and encourage positive action to
tackle its impacts. |
