Modern Pack Lanka (Pvt) Ltd (MPL) is planning to diversify into other
areas in the field of packaging.
The process of developing environment friendly packaging products
which will be available in the next few months is one such move.
The company will invest Rs 40-50m to purchase additional equipment to
expand the business, said Director /CEO Sunil Costa.
The company manufactures 100 tons of products a month.
All the raw materials used in manufacturing are food grade and are
directly imported from reputed suppliers such as Total Petra Chemicals,
BASF and IRPC.
Costa said that most of the large corporates get their packaging
solutions from MPL. From the time of placing the order to the point of
delivery the whole process is computerized.
"Sometimes we even recommend the appropriate packaging depending on
the product which should be packed", he said. Customers come with a
concept and with our experience and expertise we develop the design and
the product.
Therefore all products are tailor-made to suit the requirements of
the customer.

The company provides packaging solutions for food and dairy industry,
disposable PP and HIPS cups, confectionery, PVC and HIPS bakery
packaging, catering and take away, agriculture and poultry and other
industriesas as well.
The company has the infrastructure in-house to make any type of mould
which has helped to expand the range as mould designing and fabrication
is done using the latest technology. He said that the company invested
on a ERP solution, in addition to special technology to strengthen the
edges that gives a better protection for the products.
The six colour printer that can print six colours at once using the
best food grade ink, helps the company to produce a quality product.
The well trained and dedicated staff assists the management in
producing quality packaging solutions.
The company is ISO 9001 2000 certified and confirms to all standards
in the industry. Modern Pack Lanka (Pvt) Ltd is a joint venture with one
of the leading packaging companies based in Singapore.
MPL commenced its commercial operations in 1994 by supplying
packaging solutions to the food industry especially to the Ceylon
Biscuits. Thereafter MPL diversified its operations from the food
industry to offer perfect packaging solutions.
