Jaffna school handed back to Education Dept.

Vasavilan Central College, a prominent educational institution located in the Palaly High Security Zone and which was used by the LTTE to direct attacks on the Security Forces based in Palaly, was handed back to the Education Department by the Security Forces in Jaffna last week.

The school had remained abandoned due to the threat of LTTE landmines. Security Forces Commander Jaffna, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe said that due to accelerated de-mining within the school premises, Security Forces were able to hand over the school for the use of thousands of children from neighbouring areas.

Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Douglas Devananda was the chief guest.
