Talks to review progress of Chinese ventures
President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is in China to attend the Expo 2010
Shanghai trade exhibition will meet Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao
for bilateral discussions today, a Presidential media spokesman in China
said.
President Rajapaksa left on Friday evening to attend the opening and
closing ceremonies of the trade exhibition to be held today as a special
guest of the Chinese Government.
“The bilateral discussions will review the progress of the ongoing
Chinese ventures in the country including the Hambantota mega port
project and new areas of bi-lateral coordination will also be
discussed”, the spokesman said.”
The President and the delegation comprising Foreign Minister Prof.
G.L. Peiris and Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa were
warmly received at the Shanghai airport on their arrival yesterday
morning.
Subsequently, colourfully adorned Chinese students welcomed the
President at the entrance to the Shangri-La Hotel.
Soon after his arrival the President visited the Sri Lankan pavilion
themed ‘Tradition to modernity’ and the Chinese pavilion of the Expo
exhibition yesterday.
A meeting with the Nepali President, also an honoured guest at the
Expo is scheduled to take place before his departure to Sri Lanka
tomorrow. MF
