Low scoring affair in Kandy

Left arm medium pacer Vishwa Fernando took 6 for 31 to help St. Sebastians College to dismiss St. Anthony's College for 110 on the first day of their inter school cricket match which began at Katugastota yesterday.

It was a very poor batting display by the Antonian front line batsman as they were dismissed cheaply. Five of the batsmen registered ducks.

Four batsmen were dismissed with the score on 12 as the score slumped to 17 for 6 which later became 28 for 7. It was left to later batsmen to resurrect the innings partly. A ninth wicket stand of 35 between Minosha Gunasinghe (28) and Aruna Bandara (28) partly stemmed the collapse. Next a ninth wicket stand of 44 between Aruna Bandara, Thushan Hettige 24 not out helped the Antonians to pass the three figure mark. Right arm off spinner Arvinda Premaratne who has been among the wickets brought havoc on the Sebastianites taking 6 for 44. Antonians batting a second time facing a deficit of 37 have made 22 for no loss at close. St. Anthony's 110 all out in 35.5 overs (Nimesha Gunasinghe 25, Aruna Bandara 28, Thushan Hettige 24 not out, Hiran Wickremasekera 10, Vishwa Fernando 6 for 31, Anuk de Alwis 3 for 31) and 22 for no loss off 8 overs.

St. Sebastians 147 all out in 47.1 overs. (Oshada Fernando 21, Marval Fernando 48, Kusum Gunatillake 12, Anuk de Alwis 19, Peshan Anthony 17, Kanishka Ranaraja 2 for 17, Arvinda Premaratne 6 for 44, Thushan Hettige 2 for 33).
