Golden Key depositors to be repaid from June

Golden Key depositors have been assured that their dues would be repaid in instalments.

President of the All Depositors Association, Dushanthi Hapugoda said that this is the best news they had received after two years.

"We were just paid in driblets and there was no concrete plan to settle our dues. However, with this proposed re-payment plan, we are assured that we would get a larger share of our deposits", she said.

She said the former CEO of Golden Key, Kavan Perera has assured them that they would also be paid an interest of six percent. According to the settlement plan which is being proposed, 30 percent of the total deposit would be paid this year in two instalments. This would be made in June and December. The remaining deposits would be made in the following three years.

"This would be done by selling assets and the revenue collected by formulating a Golden Key Holding Company.

"We must also thank President Mahinda Rajapaksa, President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Central Bank Governor Ajith Cabraal and Attorney General Mohan Pieris," Hapugoda said.

She said they were disappointed with some of the high ranking officials of Ceylinco who were turning a blind eye to this issue.
