Vidyartha top 400-point mark in inter-school rugby this season

RUGBY: Vidyartha College, Kandy became the first school in the
current schools under 19 rugby tournament to top the 400-point mark when
they beat Royal College, Panadura by 65 points (5 goals, 6 tries) to 17
(1 goal, 1 penalty goal, 1 penalty) after leading 29-7 in a schools
under 20 Division One Segment 'B' rugby tournament match played on
Friday.
The Kandy school has carried everything before them this season,
chalking up comfortable victories over their opponents except in their
mates against Mahanama College which they won 37-36 to remain unbeaten
and be on top of the table of points. Vidyartha look set to gain
promotion to the 'A' Division next season.

Vidyartha College on their victory march beat D.S. Senanayake College
44-7, C.W.W. Kannangara Vidyalaya 63-0, Zahira College, Colombo 51 - 0,
Mahanama College 37 - 36, St. Anne's College 136 - 0, St. Sylvester's
College 66 - 11 and Royal College, Panadura 65 - 17.
So far, Vidyartha has scored 462 points in 7 matches and they have 3
more matches to play and look set to reads the rare 500 points during
the season. They have conceded only 71 points to their opponents which
is a creditable performance.
The team is led by flanker Ayesh Gallahawela and Coached by former
Kandy SC and National Poolist and International Rugby Referee Anil
Jayasinghe who has a long-term plan to uplift Vidyartha's rugby.
He said that their main task is to gain promotions to the top
division which looks a certainty now. |
