Dharshana counts 43 years experience as a player and a coach. The listing of the academy's website is another feather in the cap for the academy.

The top 20 badminton coaching sites are listed. About 150 students are in the academy and coaching is going at a pace.

Dharshana Fernando was a former junior national champion in Sri Lanka and a national player for a number of years. The head coach Piumika Fernando said that they have produced many shuttle champions.

Dharshana has held many coaching programs in many countries like Denmark, Belgium, Czech Republic and the USA. He says there are more applications but due to pressure of work, he is unable to check all the applications.

The academy believes that they have many 'firsts'. For the first time three of Dharshana's students were sent to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for advanced training conducted by Andrew Chang, one of the prominent coaches in Malaysia.

Ever heard of examinations for badminton theory and skipping (jump rope) competitions in a badminton school? It's there at Fernando's Badminton Academy. They were introduced to the students several years ago. Fernando's Academy also plans to invest in the latest 'badminton revolution' which is the 'shuttle shooter' machine.

This is another first for the region where the academy is housed and will be a great advantage to improve the skills of the players. The machine will free coaches to concentrate on teaching and coaching.

Fernando's ambition is to assist and promote badminton in Sri Lanka. Dharshana who leant his badminton at St. Thomas' Pre-School in Bandarawela wants to give back something to the country. He wants to assist the upcoming players with sponsorship packages.
