Appeal for O + kidney

Eleven-year-old Lasindu Sathsara Kumara of "Pratheeba", No. 162, Galhena, Beruwala, and a Grade Six student of KL\Gnanasara Maha Vidyalaya, Dharga Town, Aluthgama has neurogenic bladder with one kidney heading for chronic renal failure. He is undergoing treatment at Ward II, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Colombo.

The Consultant Paediatric Surgeon opines that an O Positive kidney is required and the transplant will cost around Rupees three million with bladder augmentation surgery to be performed at the Global Hospital in India. The child lost his father, W.D. Jagath Kumara in the tsunami disaster of 2004.-


Malcolm Wijithapala commemoration lecture

The Alumni Association of the University of Peradeniya, Colombo Chapter has organised a commemoration lecture for Malcolm Wijithapala, a dynamic student leader of Peradeniya who departed this world at a fairly young age.

The lecture will be held on December 22 at 4.30 p.m. at the auditorium of the Department of Meteorology, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo.

Prof. W.D. Laxman will deliver the keynote address and Dr. Premadasa Udugama Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya will be the chief guest.


Forum on ‘E-waste management’

The National Forum on ‘E-Waste management’ will be held at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies tomorrow with Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa as chief guest.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Sunil Herath, expert and adviser to the UN on E waste Management in the Asian region and the other leading partners in the cooperate program will also share their achievements and programs.

Commenting on the objectives of the Forum, Central Environment Authority (CEA) Chairman Charitha Herath said that the National Forum will provide a good platform to share the knowledge and experience especially the achievements of the cooperate program with all the stakeholders, Government as well as private sector.
