SLC wants to widen knowledge of coaches

CRICKET: The knowledge of cricket coaches islandwide will be widened. This is the move by the Coach Education Unit of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) so that the cricketers will get the maximum benefit. The coaches in the schools will be rounded up and will be given a full brush-up of the game.

The Central Province coaches will be first given all the know-how about coaching at a three-day seminar this week. The Coach Education Unit of the Central Province headed by J.C. Gamage will give all the new techniques of the game to the coaches.

Similar programmes will be conducted at Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle and it will be spread thereafter to the other areas.

The Coach Education Unit of Sri Lanka Cricket consists of Sumithra Warnakulasuriya, Piyal Wijetunge, Prabath Nissanaka, Manoj Abeywickrema, J.C. Gamage (Head of unit) and Heshan de Mel.

At the first discussion held at Pallekelle Stadium, there was an encouraging turn out of coaches. - Kandy Sports
