A series of stamps depicting Sri Lankan gems was issued in Germany recently, an Officer of the Postal Services Ministry told the Sunday Observer.

Director of the Carl Faller Institute, Heike Faller who met Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga at his Ministry recently, presented the stamps to him.

Minister Kumaratunga said at a time certain Western countries were issuing stamps on behalf of the LTTE, harming the sovereignty of this country, Germany has issued a series of stamps depicting the heritage of Sri Lanka.

The attempts of LTTE activists in certain Western countries to humiliate Sri Lanka and the Government through the issue of stamps for the LTTE did not succeed, the Minister said.

Minister Kumaratunga condemned such activities and said that nobody can cause damage to Sri Lanka at this point of time.

Faller said that there are a large number of philatelists in Germany who are keen on collecting Sri Lankan stamps.

He promised that no room will be provided to harm Sri Lanka's image in Germany by issuing stamps.

These stamps were printed with the approval of the German Government.
