Pakistani drug suspended

The Ministry of Health has temporarily suspended the use and sale of Pakistani manufactured Isosorbide mononitrate until investigations are completed regarding the side effects in patients in response to the drug.

This drug is used mainly for patients with high blood pressure. According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Health, the temporary suspension is not valid for the Isosorbide mononitrate manufactured by other companies. Pakistani health officials have launched investigations on this drug following the death of several patients in a hospital in Lahore who were treated with Isosorbide mononitrate 20mg.

The Health Ministry had temporarily suspended only the Pakistani manufactured Isosorbide mononitrate 20mg and not those bought from other manufacturers under different trade names in the market.
