Kandy Prisons on top with 237 points

ATHLETICS: Kandy Prisons Department with 237 points won the Kandy District State Services Athletics Meet held recently at the Police Grounds, Kandy.

In second place was Kandy General Hospital teams with 158 points and Udadumbara Provincial Council team with 73 points. Governor of Central Province

Tikiri Kobbekaduwa was the Chief Guest and gave away the awards.


Winner receives award .... W.A. Wijesekera – the veteran athlete from Provincials Education Ministry who won the 200 metres event at the Kandy District State Services Athletic Meet in the 55 to 60 age category, receives awards from chief guest Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa. A.A.J.C. Amaratunge of Udadumbara Provincial Secretariat (on right) came second and Hemachandra Gamage also from Udadumbara Provincial Secretariat (partly covered) came third. pictures by Upananda Jayasundera – Kandy Sports Special Corr.


Top three ... Jayantha Bandara (centre) won the 400 metres (for 45 to 50 year age group) flanked by P.B. Dissanayake (Postal Dept. Kandy) on right and Y.M. Saliya of Kandy General Hospital on left who came second and third respectively.
