The 29th asia pacific regional and sri lanka centenary scout jamboree will be held from april 1 to 6 at kandalama, dambulla.the king’s, queen’s, president’s, bp awardees, scouts and atas world members will join the international event.sri lanka queen’s and president’s scouts guild is organising the event.

The annual general meeting of the alumni association of sri jayawardenapura university will be held on march 31 at 3 p.m. At the central bank training centre at rajagiriya.


Lawyers re-union on March 30

The ‘Law College Batch of 1990’ has organised a dinner-dance on March 30 at the Hotel Hilton, Colombo, with the theme ‘Understated Sophistication’, symbolised in hues of black and purple.

The event is coordinated by Senior State Counsel Sumathi Dharmawardana and Attorney-at-Law Kuvera de Zoysa.

The ‘Gypsies’ will be in attendance with Channa and his dance troupe, compered by Faizal Bongso.


Laptops, motor cycle permits for dedicated Grama Niladharis

Dedicated Grama Niladharis serving the public and implementing the Government’s livelihood development projects effectively will be presented with laptops and tax-free motor cycle permits, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said.

He said, “Even though we are ready to fulfil the needs of Grama Niladharis and Divisional Secretaries, they must serve the well-being of the public without being involved in corruption and malpractices”, he said.

Twenty five Grama Niladharis who went on scholarships to Malaysia after winning State Management competitions shared their experiences after returning to their motherland, at a ceremony at the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry auditorium recently.

Minister Seneviratne, who was the chief guest at the event, said services and other benefits offered by the Government should directly go to beneficiaries. The service of Grama Niladharis is crucial in transmitting these services to the public.

Grama Niladharis should pay attention to serving the people without seeking privileges, the Minister said.


Help save his life

Mohamed Mihilar Mohamed Mihar of No. 48/6, Sheik Jamaldeen Road, Moliyamolai, Beruwala is suffering from an acute heart ailment.

Medical specialists have recommended a coronary artery bypass graft surgery to save his life, which is estimated to cost Rs. 495,000.

Mihar Saya who is unable to meet the bill appeals to the generous public to help by contributing to the worthy cause by remitting to A/C No. 311-2-001-2-0036205 of the People's Bank, Beruwala branch.

She needs help

Dilrukshi, aged 11 is suffering from malfunctioning of the brain and is unable to walk without a disability equipment.

Her mother, a widow finds it difficult to purchase such an equipment costing nearly Rs.20,000.

She appeals for public contributions which could be remitted to their A/c No.060-2-001-3-0055011, People's Bank, Morawaka.

 

 


JPs' seminar on March 31

A seminar organised by the Kalutara District Justices of the Peace Association to educate its members on various matters related to their duties will be held at Panadura Divisional Secretariat on March 31 at 9.00 a.m. under the patronage of Senior Assistant Secretary of the Justice Ministry A.K.D.D.D. Arandara.

Senior Superintendent of Police H.M. Dharmasena, Supreme Court lawyer Chandana Amarasinghe, Attorney-at-Law Gamini Ekanayake will also deliver lectures.


AGM of Peradeniya Alumni on March 25

The Alumni Association of the University of Peradeniya will hold its Annual General Meeting on March 25 at 9 a.m. at the Arts Theatre of the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya.

Well-known drama personality Somalatha Subasinghe will be the chief guest, while Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya S.B.S. Abeykoon will be the guest of honour. A fellowship lunch will follow at “The Lodge” (Vice Chancellor's residence).
