Another port of call for Shamrock G. Shipping

Sri Lanka-owned Shamrock G. Shipping Pvt. Ltd., which launched its first shipping service Pearl City Express between Colombo and Tuticorin last November, adds on Cochin in India, as its second port of call with effect from the first week of January.

This container feeder service, the only one of its kind according to the operators of the 279 teu capacity vessel 'M.V. Mathish' has so far done 12 voyages, transporting and relocating containers between Colombo and Turicorin since its launch.

Capt. Nalin Abeyratne of Shamrock G. Shipping said that the initial success of the Colombo-Tuticorin sector coupled with the subsequent demand for a second such service, has led to M.V. Mathish servicing Cochin.

Capt. Abeyratne is optimistic that its cost effective freight rates will attract main lines to continue using Colombo as the hub for transhipment in the region. This, he is confident, will lead to Shamrock G. Shipping servicing an increasing number of regional ports before the end of 2002.
