Three cricket selectors resign Three members of the five-member national cricket selection committee resigned on Friday following the selection furore over the Sri Lanka team for the on-going second Test against Zimbabwe at the Asgiriya International Stadium. The three who tendered their resignations to Sports Minister Johnston Fernando were Brendon Kuruppu, Kapila Wijegunawardene and Amal Silva, all former Test cricketers. The two who remain in the committee are chairman of selectors Tikiri Banda Kehelgamuwa and K.M. Nelson. The national selectors had wanted vice-captain Marvan Atapattu and fast bowler Buddhika Fernando dropped from the Kandy Test. But on representations made by the team management to the chairman of selectors and the Sports Minister, the decision of the selection committee was revoked and Sri Lanka retained the same team that won the first Test at the SSC by an innings. |
