Lighting
up the lives of young cancer victims
MTN Networks (Pvt) Ltd. has extended one of its charitable initiatives, Dialog@Hospitals, to the children's ward at the Cancer Hospital Maharagama. The program was initially launched at the Sri Lanka Army Hospital for the benefit of disabled soldiers. The objective of this charitable venture is to make a difference in the lives of the innocent victims who are battling for their lives and also to fully utilise the advantage of mobile telecommunication by facilitating them with mobile phones to contact their loved ones. MTN also intends to link up with Sirasa TV and host a special program for the children. The patients can utilise the mobile phones provided to call the TV station and make requests and dedications or sing on air. The program will also include fun games via SMS and birthday celebrations. The viewers of the program will be given the opportunity to link up with the patients by sending special messages via SMS and mail for New Year, Christmas and other special occasions. MTN Networks, a fully owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, has organised many charitable ventures, such as the change' trust fund, Jaipur Foot Donation program, and helping the Ceylon Deaf and Blind School and the National Child Protection Authority. The company also won the GSM World Award 2001 in the 'GSM in the Community' category out of 450 GSM operators at a ceremony held in France. |
