Bound training programmes
Care International and Textured Jersey Lanka recently took their staff through 'Weekend Challenge' Outward Bound (OB) training programmes conducted by Sri Lanka Business Development Centre (SLBDC) in collaboration with the Outward Bound Trust of Sri Lanka. A '12 hr. Challenge' programme was also conducted for HSBC executives who have been selected to set up a new branch in Maldives. OB programmes enable the participants to deviate from their monotonous routine of daily life and venture into a world of outdoor and wilderness adventure and excitement. These programmes encourage the participants to develop leadership qualities, foster team spirit and build self confidence. Trained instructors guide the participants through the programme. A management consultant explains the relevance of the principles of management theory to all the exercises at the end of the programme and relate them to the work environment. OB programmes which provide high quality management development experiences instill in participants a high sense of team spirit and discipline which enable them to foster better inter-departmental co-operation and work culture and improve efficiency, competitiveness and productivity apart from the friendship and trust which they build within the enterprise. Leadership qualities, decision-making skills, team work and self confidence are some of the skills the participants learn and develop as part of the course which also involves group activities, discussions and presentations which take place throughout the training. The second round of training programmes on entrepreneurship development for the clients of DFCC Bank of Anuradhapura Branch were also conducted recently by SLBDC in collaboration with DFCC Bank. Participants were given an exposure on marketing and financial aspects based on GTZ and CEFE methodology (Competency - based Economies through Formation of Enterprise). This training series was an initiative of the DFCC Bank to increase the productivity of and profitability of the business enterprises of its clients. |
