Over 50 local companies for Dubai Global Village

Over 50 Sri Lankan companies are expected to take part in the Dubai Global Village - International Trade Fair in March.

Forty five countries will take part in the event which is expected to attract over two million people.

The Sri Lankan pavilion will be organised by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) in association with Huejay International Ltd.

President of NCE Patrick Amarasinghe told a recent media briefing that this alliance was formed by the Chamber with Huejay International Chairman Hubert Jayakody to help small industrialists.

"Sri Lankan exporters taking part in the fair will not need to put up their own stalls; Huejay will do it for them. The company will sponsor the pavilion during the fair. We will be helping our exporters, particularly the small and medium exporters to market their products and to develop export markets.

The Sri Lankan pavilion will not only promote exports from the island, but also project our image," Amarasinghe said. Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ravi Karunanayake said ensuring the participation of local exporters in this international event was the first issue he had taken up after the formation of the new government.

"We will ensure that Sri Lanka is represented at every major event of this nature. There are many ventures which, although they have been in business for some time, have not been exposed to the outside world.

"This needs to be changed. That is why we need to take part in this type of event," the Minister said.

He also welcomed information and advice from the exporters so that they can act accordingly. "Help us to help you better," he said.
