National Career Fair in March

The Rotary Club of Colombo has organized a National Career Fair in March to benefit the school leavers.

Addressing a media conference in Colombo Arun Thapar said "Out of the 400,000 youngsters who enter the school stream every year, only 80,411 students complete their A/L's and qualify for higher studies. Since the 12 universities can only absorb 12,760 students. The remaining number fall by the wayside, thus contributing to unemployment and economic problems," said Arun Thapar, Project Chairman Rotary Club of Colombo at a Press briefing held last week at the Taj Samudra Hotel, to announce the hosting of the National Career Fair 2002.

This Fair, Thapar explained, "will bring together more than 150 institutes which offer training and education to a single location where the students can obtain relevant information."

He further said that Rotary Club of Colombo would be working with schools islandwide to promote the event.

The Fair is unique as there would be speakers who are professionals from associations and organizations including the armed forces to explain the career paths available.

He also thanked the Taj Samudra Hotel for providing the venue free and the national Media, which had readily agreed to assist in the project.
