Workshops on creative drama activities for children will once again be conducted by Somalatha Subasinghe for children, artistes and teachers commencing next month. There has been a great demand from parents requesting her to hold these workshops and as such Subasinghe will be conducting the workshops in two sections. The first of these are scheduled to be held on February 23 and 24 for artistes and teachers who are interested in working with and writing scripts for children. At this workshop her purpose is not only to encourage artistes and teachers to create children's plays but to also give them an opportunity to sharpen and develop their talents and capabilities. After following the basic course, these participants will get an opportunity to carry out practical exercises with children under her guidance on four Saturdays in March. These special workshops scheduled to be held every Saturday from March 2 are for children between the ages 5 and 14. The subjects which include acting, singing, movement, creative dancing, drawing and handicraft, aim at improving the child's inborn talents and developing the child's personality. Somalatha Subasinghe will be conducting the workshops with a group of young talented theatre performers and is of the opinion that these workshops will help to fill a vacuum at present since classes in creative drama for children, artistes and teachers are rare in this country.
