Fluidity triumphs: Intimate fashion wear

by JAYANTHI LIYANAGE

Times were when they merely concealed and conformed one's contours, playing a muted role in propping the glitz and glamour of one's outer garments. But, to the high-powered woman of the '00s, never more conscious of her "woman-power" and all it insinuates than now, the feel and the mould next to her skin is the vital factor which triggers the sparks and the fire of her role and occasion.

To pander to contemporary "femme" life styles crammed with an energetically expanding rainbow of social roles - which needless to say, require diversely-different and adroitly-designed clothes to fuse into each other intimate fashion wear has grown to command a world of its own. What your great-grandma covertly wore as a garment for all occasions is now an alluring variety of racy, lacy transparencies and silhouettes which provocatively wrap and sculpt the body to express the many stances of the versatile '00 woman. Was it Salmon Khan who once quipped, "I like a woman's sense, presence and nonsense" ? Well, intimate fashion wear is sense, presence and delightfully self-indulgent nonsense - all in one go.

When your neck line demands a curvier cleavage or perilously plummet down your back; when you itch to pull on your clinging fancy T-shirt with no tell-tale rib marks sticking out from under; when you hope your inner layers of garments will stay in place while you thrash the pitch in a roaring game of netball; when you travel out on long, hectic work trips and long to avoid those "cutting into skin" under garments and have freedom to stretch; choosing the right intimate fashion wear could give you that rare trio - fluidity, feather-weight and immaculateness.

The launch of "Triumph Collection 2002" at Legends, Majestic City, last weekend, in virtually a "Lingerie's Ode to the '00s", reflected the newest thinking in "fashions of the second skin". The Indian model quartet was poetry in catwalk - in satin, cotton and luscious fabrics embellished with lace. Demure deliliahs - harmonising romance and sensitivity in form, texture and colour, giving glamour a new edge in elegance. And lingerie which lingered long after one has seen them, painting grace and sensuality on feminine contours.

The seamless "Bodysoft" range, manufactured with computerized technology, eliminates uncomfortable seams at waist or sides. The light, luxurious, silky micro fabric stretches and gives a great shape under figure hugging clothes - moulding itself to one's body as a second skin.

Soft and colourful tubes and thongs are ideal with jeans, shorts or even to wear to office under your suit - they are dual purpose items.

Maximiser Push Up bras claim to maximise your potential. The modern designs, with decorative ladder tape trimming or all-over lace in expressive floral patterns, combine comfort with fashionability while enhancing cleavage. The specially moulded seamless cups disappear under evening wear, T shirts and tight-fitting clothes. Underwiring is another feature which shapes and supports bust without any pressure. Side push up effect is built in T shirt bras for extreme lift performance. Gel bras, detailed with feminine touches, knits in close to body shapes and make you almost forget you are wearing them. The multiple front adjuster enables varying cleavage effects.

The "Bridal Bra" or the 5-way bra, is the ultimate uplift lingerie. It can be worn with straps, without straps, halter neck, criss cross and across the shoulder to fit any attire - be it your wedding dress, office saree or the most sophisticated evening dress.

Hikinis or briefs and minislips with matching bras and bustiers come in shiny chameuse, satinette, cotton and intricate lace with scalloped edges. Dreamy white floral embroidery or red leafy patterns on black. Deep burgundy, twilight blue, ivory, black, white, lemon, baby blue - the fascinating colour range gives lingerie a top perch up the fashion ladder.

Ease and delicate brevity was key in intimate night wear on the "Triumph" ramp, in soft prints and pastels. The swimwear bared in squares, in modest proportions, in blue, black and maroon. The modern fashion-plates dictate that no matter how glamorously a woman is decked on the outside the chic and femininity of her totality emerges from her inner layer of intimate fashion wear.
