Power
supply for Madhu region
by FRANCES BULATHSINGHALA Minister of Northern Rehabilitation and Refugees, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, said yesterday that the electricity supply in the Madhu area will be inaugurated by him tomorrow, enabling the supply to be restored from Peramanandakulam to Madhu. The restoration of the power supply comes after nearly ten years when the transformers were destroyed during the conflict. Minister Jayawardena who described his ministry as a bridge between the North and the South said that he would be implementing several facilities in the North-East, beginning with the Madhu region. Among the facilities to be implemented in the area are a kerosene filling station and a permanent medical camp, he said. Meanwhile, he also said he would also look into the possibility of getting released LTTE suspects detained on suspicion and without any charges against them. He said that this will be considered as a gesture of reciprocation after the LTTE released 3 military servicemen and seven civilians in their custody. |
