Sri Lanka meet Pakistan today in Super League match by RANJAN ANANDAPPA in Christchurch, New Zealand Sri Lanka will take on Pakistan in their opening Super League championship match today (Sunday) at the Lincoln University Grounds number 3 here in Christchurch and India will meet the West Indies at the adjoining Bert Sutcliffe Oval on the same day. The Lankans will certainly be up against tough opposition and from this stage onwards the tournament should be more competitive as eight of the Test playing countries have qualified to meet each other in the Super League which has been divided into two sections. Although Sri Lanka bowled and fielded exceptionally well in their last game their batsmen should bat with more conviction. They have the tendency of running themselves out meaninglessly when they appear to be well set for a big score. Sri Lanka's medium pace attack looked good, but it was the spinners that really tied down the batsmen. However Pakistanis have the reputation of playing spin bowling well and spinners left-armer Prasad Ranawaka and Jeevan Mendis will have to deliver their best to restrict the Pakistanis. On Friday, Nepal coached by former Sri Lanka vice captain and star batsman Roy Dias, despite taking maximum pool points against Papua New Guinea missed qualifying for the top eight of the World Youth Cup on net run rate of a three way tie. Pakistan beat England on Friday at Lincoln and the three teams all ended equal on nine points after Nepal had upset Pakistan earlier in the week. The Super League has been divided into two sections.
