Bond bowls Kiwis to 77-run win over Australia ADELAIDE, Australia, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Fast bowler Shane Bond took five for 25 and opener Nathan Astle top-scored with 95 as New Zealand thrashed Australia by 77 runs in their limited-overs international on Saturday. New Zealand made 242 for five from their 50 overs before dismissing Australia for 165 in 45.2 overs. The World Cup champions were rocked at the start of their innings, losing four wickets for 26 runs in 7.2 overs, and never recovered despite a fifth-wicket stand of 71 between Australia captain Steve Waugh (30) and Michael Bevan (45). Earlier, all-rounder Chris Cairns, fresh from his unbeaten 102 in New Zealand's win over South Africa seven days ago, smashed three sixes and one four for a 23-ball 39 not out. In partnership with fellow all-rounder Chris Harris, who made a quickfire 19, Cairns put on 45 for the unbroken sixth wicket in only 5.3 overs. Astle's record Earlier, Astle became New Zealand's leading run-scorer in one-day internationals when he scored his 44th run. A tired-looking Astle, struggling in the hot conditions, was yorked by Glenn McGrath (two for 36) in the 45th over after hitting six fours and one six over point in his 135-ball innings. Astle had recovered from a broken hand and was playing his 140th one-dayer and first in the triangular series. The 30-year-old swept leg-spinner Shane Warne to fine leg for a single in the 18th over to reach 44, overtaking Martin Crowe's tally of 4,704 runs in 143 matches. Astle shared a second-wicket partnership of 128 with Lou Vincent (55) after Brendon McCullum was out for a duck in the first over. Australia's Andrew Bichel and Andrew Symonds fumbled chances to have Cairns run out for seven and caught at deep mid-wicket for 16. Cairns cleared Ponting's head at long-off for six in the 50th over which cost 16 runs. Bichel, the bowler, conceded 57 runs from six overs while Ponting had caught Cairns in the 48th over but stumbled over the boundary rope. Collapse Australia's Mark Waugh was caught and bowled off a leading edge by former Test captain Dion Nash for a duck in the first over as Nash celebrated his first appearance in the triangular series after a groin injury. Bond dismissed Ricky Ponting (0), Damien Martyn (2) and Adam Gilchrist (21) as Australia slumped to 26 for four. Steve Waugh was caught at slip by Kiwi skipper Stephen Fleming off the bowling of left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori at 97 for five before Bevan and Andrew Symonds (11) fell to the bowling of one-day specialist Harris (2-35) as Australia lost three for 17 to be 114 for seven in the 30th over. Bond took the 10th wicket in his 10th over when he bowled Jason Gillespie for 15 in the 46th over, giving the Kiwis a bonus point for keeping Australia under 194. New Zealand remain at the top of the standings on 17 points from five matches in the triangular series, ahead of Australia on nine and South Africa on eight.
