CCC submits tax proposals to Finance Minister

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), in a letter to the Minister of Finance, has sent the Chamber's proposals on taxation and tax administration to be included in the budget proposals for the year 2002.

The letter signed by the Chairman of CCC Chandra Jayaratne says: "We have limited our taxation proposals to those which we believe are essential to leverage significant growth through the private sector."

The letter has mainly dealt with taxation issues and administrative issues.

The taxation issues have dealt with sectorial relief, corporate tax structure and rates, net income concept, power projects, tax threshold as well as facilitation of trade, investment and technology transfer.

The administrative issues have dealt with the subjects of prescription period, charter of taxpayers' rights and obligations, indexation of tax threshold and establishment of a forum for review of revenue issues of the future.
