Emirates to lure Lankans to Dubai shopping festival

Emirates has announced attractively priced airfare plus accommodation packages to encourage Sri Lankans to participate in this year's Dubai Shopping festival (DSF), billed the biggest shopping extravaganza in the world, to be held from March 1 to 31.

The numbers of Sri Lankans availing themselves of Emirates Holiday packages to the DSF have increased annually, "Emirates Area Manager Sri Lanka and Maldives Tissa Bibile said. "Last year, Colombo was placed 11th out of 51 destinations that sold such packages, with the first 10 being Middle Eastern stations. We are looking to improve on this performance this year."

"In its seventh year, the Dubai Shopping Festival 2002, besides the shopping bargains on offer also boasts the world's richest horse race, the world's biggest gold raffle, and the world's richest luxury car raffle," he said.

Other key attractions at this year's Dubai Shopping Festival include the Dubai Desert Classic international golf tournament, the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open tennis championship carpet oasis, Arabian Bedouin Lifestyle festival, Frozen World, Crocodile Show, Dolphin Show, 3D Cinema, Global Village, Heritage and Diving Village activities and the Ayeed Opera.

"The DSF is one of the most multi-faceted events in the world and offers exciting experiences for people of all ages. We would like to see more Sri Lankans participate in this event," Mr. Bibile added. "This is also a great opportunity for people enroute to Europe and other destinations to enjoy a break in Dubai," Emirates flies 11 times a week from Colombo to Dubai, offering five direct connections and six via Male.
