Rs. 10.5b road development project The Road Development Authority (RDA) will improve 274 km of national highways and 42 bridges in 11 districts at a cost of Rs 10.5 billion. The Asian Development Bank will provide US$ 80 million for these projects. The supervising consultant for this project is Roughton International in association with Engineering Consultants Ltd., an RDA spokesman said. Civil works for road improvement will be procured in two phases with five Local Competitive Bidding (LCB) packages and three International Competitive Bidding (ICB) packages in phase one and five LCB packages in phase two. Under the first phase of the project, the following roads will be developed under an ICB package: Panadura-Ingiriya, Katugastota-Kurunegala, Katugastota-Wattegama, Weerawila-Kataragama and Dickwella-Beliatta. Ambatale-Kaduwela, Malabe-Godagama, Pasyala-Mirigama, Nittambuwa-Urapola, Pelmadulla-Madampe, Madampe-Malwatte and Malwatte-Timbolketiya roads will be developed under an LCB package. The following roads will be developed under an LCB package as part of the second phase: Nagoda-Agalawatte, Ambalangoda-Elpitya, Nawalapitiya-Ginigathhena, Timbolketiya- Embilipitiya and Embilipitiya-New Japanese Road. |
