Lankan ingredients for French perfume makers Sri Lanka's potential in the export of essential oils, a key ingredient needed by perfume makers throughout the world, was displayed in Paris recently. The event was organised jointly by the Association of French Perfume Manufacturers (SFP) and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris to present the findings of a study mission sent to the island by SFP with the Embassy's and Sri Lanka Export Development Board's assistance last April/May. Nearly 200 guests, most of them representing well-known French and other internationally reputed brands of perfumes and cosmetics such as Christian Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Yves Rocher, L'Oreal, Lolita Lempicka, Takasago, and Shiseido, took part in the event. H.D. De Silva, Managing Director of H.D. De Silva and Sons (Pvt.) Ltd. and D.A. Perera, Managing Director of EOAS Organic (Pvt.) Ltd., two leading processors and exporters of essential oils and spices in Sri Lanka, also took part in the event. A special perfume, The Spirit of Sri Lanka, created by the French Perfumers Association to mark the occasion, was also presented. This is a light and subtle perfume blended by French perfume makers using Sri Lankan essential oils and spices. The French perfume industry continues to source the bulk of its cinnamon bark oil and cardamom oil requirements from Sri Lanka whereas USA remains the number one buyer for cinnamon leaf and citronella oils. This presentation marked another step by SFP and the Embassy in the direction of promoting and consolidating closer business links between French perfume makers and the essential oils industry in Sri Lanka. |
