MIA kins' group falls apart by FRANCES BULATHSINGHALA Controversy has erupted within the Association of Relatives of Servicemen Missing in Action (ARSMA) with five key members informing its head, E. P. Nanayakkara, that they were quitting on grounds of 'iniquity' in the organisation over certain decisions taken by him. The five members including its secretary, N. D. E. F. Wethasinghe and treasurer, Mrs. K. A. D. M. Nanayakkara (no relation of the ARSMA president) had tendered their resignation last Thursday. Meanwhile, the treasurer claims that Mr. E. P. Nanayakkara had forcibly taken her signature for the statement of accounts of the recent Madhu visit organised by the ARSMA last month. Mr. Nanayakkara, however, when contacted refuted this allegation saying that the treasurer signed the documents 'on her own accord'. The president and founder of the association, E. P. Nanayakkara, who failed to fulfil the hopes reposed in him by over 2000 relatives of servicemen missing in action, said that although he had decided to disband his association during the course of next week after a meeting with the other members, the resignation of the five members was invalid according to the constitution of the association. |
