Home delivery service from supermarket chain

Bairaha Super Mart, the retail chain of the Bairaha Group, has launched a free home delivery service at its dehiwela outlet.

Effective February 8, residents within a Denigrated area may call in their orders and have them delivered to their homes free of charge if the value of the purchases exceeds Rs. 1500, the company said.

Believed to the first free home delivery service offered by a supermarket chain in Sri Lanka, the service would be a boon to housewives who do not have their own transport, the elderly, indisposed and disabled, Bairaha Super Mart General Manager Saman Warnasuriya.

Mr. Warnasuriya said, "The service may be extended selectively to other Bairaha Super Marts once the success of the pilot project is assessed".

A relative newcomer to supermarketing, an area it ventured into in December 1997, Bairaha Super Mart is a fully-owned subsidiary of Bairaha Farms Limited, a local company involved in branded broiler chicken products. The Bairaha Group is said to be the only group of companies in Sri Lanka to date to receive the internationally accredited ISO 9002 and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certifications for its integrated operations that include breeder farms, hatcheries, chicken processing and further processing of chicken products and retailing.
