Founded in 1976 with 64 rooms, Koggala Beach Resort now offers 204 deluxe rooms. It is the longest beach resort, stretching upto one kilometre in length.

Situated 12 km south of the city of Galle, with a kilometre of golden sands, against an emerald green backdrop, Koggala Beach Hotel is one of the most enchanting resorts in Sri Lanka.

The hotel has the largest beach frontage and the gorgeous unspoilt beach which is the plus point for the hotel.

When I visited the hotel last week, it was recording an almost one hundred percent occupancy with the Kenya cricket team and officials being resident at the hotel.

Proprietor-Chairman and Managing Director Koggala Beach Resort, S.D. Saparamadu, as one of the pioneers in Sri Lanka's hotel industry, had given a great contribution to the tourism industry by designing and creating this holiday resort in 1976, at the initial stages of Sri Lanka's tourism industry.

Built on a 4-acres land with one kilometre beach frontage, one of Sri Lanka's best beaches in Koggala, Habaraduwa, the hotel has become popular among foreign tourist with a very high rate of repeater clientele - some foreign tourists holidaying at the resort over 40 times.

In the year 2000, a refurbishment programme was carried out with a new architecture to give Koggala Beach Resort new look. Most of the staff and are serving from the inception of the hotel and have been trained at the Ceylon Hotel School, explained Director-General Manager, Koggala Beach Hotel, Harsha Gamage.

The hotel organisers days trips for tourists covering Yala/Bundala National Sanctuaries, Veherahena Temple (where one of the largest Buddha statues in built) Hummanaya in Kudawella (a very rare happening to view) up-rising of water in the sea and famous Calvary church in Hiniduma.

The hotel offers all modern facilities including two main restaurants and open air restaurant, offering guests delicious food.

It has a large conference hall which could accommodate over 150 guests. It also has a beautiful large swimming pool with a Jacuzzi and kiddies pool. Evening entertainment for guests includes live Calypso music cultural shows, fire limbo dancers, discotheque.

The hotel also has a massage centre, offering herbal and powder massages and a shopping arcade. It also has a Turtle Hatchery, which is a big attraction for tourists.

The newly refurbished rooms are equipped with all modern facilities, including individually controlled AC, telephone, pipe music, hot/cold water, and balcony terrace. The main restaurant offers a spectacular view of the beautiful Indian ocean and serves a daily International buffet at dinner with different theme nights each day.

The Directors of Koggala Beach Hotel are S.D. Saparamadu (Proprietor-Chairman-Managing Director) Mrs. Rupa Saparamadu (Director) Mohan Saparamadue (Director) Kassapa Saparamadu (Director) and Harsha Gamage (Director-General Manager). The Resident Manager in Aruna Jayalath.
