Toshiba keen to come in

by Surekha Galagoda

Toshiba, one of the biggest conglomerates in Japan in the electronic sector is prepared to invest in Sri Lanka because of the improved political and economic climate, Enterprise Development Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion and Constitutional Affairs Minister, G. L. Peiris said addressing a de-regulation conference at Marawila.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Entrepreneurs during his recent visit to Japan. Most of the big companies such as Marubeni, Toshiba and Mitsubishi expressed their interest to come to Sri Lanka to invest.

This was due to the conducive conditions adopted by the United National Front Government together with the initiation of the peace process, Prof. Peiris said.

The confab was organised by the Advisory Council of Ministry of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy, Investment Promotion and Constitutional Affairs Ministry and the Asian Development Bank.
