Will have diplomatic status: Ceasefire monitors arrive today

Members of an International Monitoring Mission to monitor the Ceasefire Agreement between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will arrive in Colombo today (Sunday), diplomatic sources told the "Sunday Observer".

Extensive consultations all round before signing - PM

It was after extensive consultations with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers, consultations with the Maha Sangha, and a prior briefing of the heads of the national media that the Government proceeded to sign the ceasefire agreement, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told a gathering of officers and troops of the armed forces at the Trincomalee naval base last Friday evening.
