Voting rights for migrant workers

With the Local Government elections around the corner members of the Migrant Service Centre took to the streets in a three-wheeler procession on Friday to agitate for voting rights for migrant workers.

Joining a large group of women demonstrators at the Lipton Circus, they asked women candidates at the Local Government Polls to take up the cause of migrant voters.

The Migrant Service Centre, which alleges that state-level pledges to the workers have not been honoured, plans to continue with the campaign for the democratic rights of migrant workers, 70 per cent of who are women, and most of them domestic workers. All the workers are registered voters.
