Part of the beautiful pool overlooking the resort.

A perfect creation of nature, The Oasis Resort at Hambantota, nestles at the edge of the Indian Ocean with miles of glorious beach and clear turquoise sea, and a tranquil lake amidst nature and coastal scenery.

Travelling almost 230 km. from Colombo through the dry zone of Matara, along a gorgeous beach stretch, when I reached Sisilagama, in Hambantota, I was amazed to see a beautiful resort with full of greenery, a perfect creation of nature The Oasis Resort. The resort stands amidst a marvellously designed landscape, resembling a beautiful botanical garden. it has ten self styled chalets and 38 comfortable well apportioned rooms and two deluxe suites, all equipped with modern facilities that a 5-star hotel offers its guests.

All chalets and rooms are air conditioned, with telephone, TV, piped music, hot/ cold water, elegant bath tubs, separate showers and toilets, private balcony and terrace, 24-hour room service and laundry.

The deluxe suites are carpeted and tastefully furnished with large lounge areas. The 'Nelum' restaurant offers its guests a tasteful A'la Carte menu of Sri Lankan, Eastern, Western, Chinese and International cuisine and a variety of desserts with a spread of tropical fruits.

For the young and health conscious, The Oasis offers a large pool, Jacuzzi, well equipped gym, tennis court, beach volleyball, squash court, indoor games etc.The 'Bush Bar' is well stocked with a range of wines, spirits, liqueurs, with scintillating music, a typical place to relax in the evening watching the panoramic view of the golden sunset. The resort offers its guests an opportunity to explore the wild life and nature of Sri Lanka at Yala and Uda Walawa National Parks - Sri Lanka's two Wildlife reserves with its famous herds of elephants. The resort also offers an opportunity to explore the Bird Sanctuaries of Bundala and Kalametiya where over 20,000 species of birds visit over the year.

The resort offers its visitors special safaris to any of the above sanctuaries accompanied by licensed trackers.

The Oasis Resort also organises special excursion to archaeological and religious sites at Kataragama, one of the holiest locations to the Buddhists and Hindus of Sri Lanka. Situlpawwa Rock Temple - historically significant as one of the greatest second century sites of scholarship, Kirinda to marvel the wonders of an ancient Sinhala Kingdom and Tissamaharama - a treasure trove of artecrafts and architecture of a civilization dating back to hundreds of years.

The Oasis Resort was awarded the three-star classification in the year 1999, and since then it offers its guests all facilities of a 5-star hotel.

The latest addition to the resort is a full Ayurveda programme inclusive of Panchakarma. The Ayurveda therapy starts with consultation with Ayurveda physicians and followed by treatment programs. The resort intends carrying out Ayurveda programs for periods of 10 days or above which is known as 'Intensive Ayurveda Therapy' and 5-10 days which is known as 'Wellness'. Different types of massage including head, body and face, and special massages as per needs of individuals under the guidance of physicians, inhalations and Shrirodhara, Steam and herbal treatment are also carried out during the course of therapy.Special acupuncture treatments are also available at the resort.

In addition to the above. Yoga, meditation and 'Tai Chi' are practiced during the period of treatment. Special Sri Lankan food and herbal teas are also served to guests. The new Ayurveda programme of the Oasis Resort will be launched at the International Travel Bureau (ITB) Tourist Fair in Berlin, Germany this month.
