Govt. Schools close on April 10

All government schools will close for the Sinhala-Tamil New Year from April 10, an Education Ministry spokesman told the "Sunday Observer". The first term school vacation will be from April 11 to 28. But schools which are not being occupied as evaluation centres will begin their second term from April 29 to July 31 and their second term vacation will be from August 01 to 25.

The schools which are being used as GCE (A/L) Examination paper marking centres will be closed from May 20 to August 16. Their August school vacation is limited only for a week, from August 17 to 25.

Muslim schools will also be closed from April 21 to May 19.

Meanwhile, an official of the Examinations Department said that arrangements have been made to conduct the GCE (A/L) Examination from April 22 to May 18.
