Rugby referees workshop with Ayoub starts March 28 by LAL GUNESEKERA An international referee, manager/trainer, George Ayoub, will conduct an advanced workshop for cadet and Level I referees of the newly formed Central Province Rugby Football Referee Society (CPRFRS) from March 28 to 30 at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. each day. "Ayoub will be in the country by courtesy of Dilip Kumar (Chairman of the New South Wales Rugby Union). The CPRFRS was formed only in November last year (2001), but we have been successful in recruiting 33 cadet referees from the Kandy District who are in training", said Vice-President, CPRFRS, Iswan Omar. President of the Central Province RFU, Maurice Perera and President of the CPRFRS, Brigadier Jupana Jayawardene, too will be involved in this workshop. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka side for the Hong Kong International 7's from March 22 to 24 is scheduled to leave the country on Tuesday, while the Rugby World Cup (Asian qualifying) with China has been confirmed to be staged at Longden Place on April 7 and the game with Kazakhstan at Taraz will be on April 21. The Singer/SriLankan International 7's of the Kandy Sports Club is scheduled to be staged at the Bogambara Stadium on August 30, 31 and September 1, and many countries will be making their debut at this tournament. The first-round of the Caltex 'A' Division League Championship will be from May 3 to June 30 with the second-round from July 5 to August 4. The Caltex Clifford Cup Knock-Out Championship will be from August 14 to 24 and the President's Trophy Knock-Out Championship from October 18 to 27. |
