Sangakkara on the move

Adam Gilchrist is just three points short of being Number One in the PwC Ratings for Test batsmen. Against a full-strength South African attack scores of 138 not out and 24 would have been enough to put Gilchrist top, but he remains tied in second place with Brian Lara. Matthew Hayden is ten points behind in fourth place, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers latest Test ratings.

In Lahore, a double century for Kumar Sangakkara, another left-handed wicket-keeper/batsman, lifted him to sixth in the batting ratings. With Andy Flower currently eighth, this is a golden era for this particular breed of player.

In the bowling, Muttiah Muralitharan has stretched his lead over Glenn McGrath to six points, while Shane Warne, fourth on 762 points, is at his best rating for four years.

The latest ratings are below, and also (formatted) in the attachment. More details on the ratings at www.pwcratings.com
