Comet Cable sponsors Indo-Sri Lanka women's indoor cricket semis by PELHAM JURIANSZ Comet Cable, the premier pay television network in Sri Lanka under the parent company Ruhuna 2001 Multivision(Pvt) Ltd, has sponsored the women's international indoor cricket Test series between Sri Lanka and India. The Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association(CICA), the pioneers in introducing indoor cricket to Sri Lanka and developing the game towards world standards are organising their third series. The association earlier brought down the Indian men's indoor cricket team and more recently the Australian men's indoor cricket team. Both were highly successful tours. Indoor cricket has become very popular and has spread in countries like Australia, where it originated, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India and Namibia who play on a regular basis. The history of indoor cricket goes back to the late 1970's when it first started in Perth, Western Australia. The Sri Lanka women's cricket team is hard at practice under the watchful eye of coach Sachitra Siribaddana and consists of most of the outdoor women's cricket team. The Sri Lanka Women's team will be picked from: Vanessa de Silva (Bowen), Hiroshi Abeysinghe, Sandamali Dolewatte, Randika Galanga, Dona Indralatha, Gayathri Kariyawasam, A. Withanage, Thanuja Ekanayake, Chamani Seneviratne, Rose Fernando, Hiruka Fernando, Ramani Perera, Gayathri Liyanage, Wasanthi Ratnayake, Chamika Bandara, Thilaka Gunaratne. There are four clubs represented in the National squad, namely Colts, Slimline, Young Womens and Rajarata Ladies. The Indian Women's team will arrive on April 3 and will be hosted by Galadari Hotel. There will be three Tests between the two teams at Thalawatugoda on April 5, 6 and 7 from 1.00 p.m. to 3 p.m. |
