NO-MAN’S LAND: Ominously empty, this grassy stretch is the continuation of the Kandy-Jaffna A-9 national highway beyond the last government military frontlines at Muhamalai, Jaffna peninsula. This overgrown, heavily mined piece of roadway stretches for 300 metres to the LTTE frontlines just north of Elephant Pass. This is now being cleared of mines and repaired in anticipation of the re-opening of the whole highway scheduled for this week.
