SLMC-LTTE talks likely next week

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader, Minister Rauf Hakeem has responded positively to the invitation extended by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for talks with the organisation, and said that the change of heart on the part of the LTTE was appreciative. The SLMC has been invited by the LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham for extensive talks on the issues of Muslims in the North and East in the Vanni next week.

Informed sources said that the LTTE had suggested to have the meeting with the SLMC leadership on April 13 and Mr. Rauf Hakeem was now in contact with the Norwegian Ambassador Jon Westborg to make the necessary arrangements for the talks.

Meanwhile, the SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem in a statement had said that his party was willing to take part in a sincere dialogue with the LTTE.
