From the Prime Minister....

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a New Year message states:

"Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a time to renew unity, peace and mutual understanding among all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka. Therefore at this special time let us resolve to build a Sri Lanka where all of us could live in peace, harmony and mutual understanding. I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year."

The Air Force has enhanced its internal flights to cope with the increasing number of passengers travelling from the North to the South following the government's peace efforts now in force.

A few months ago, hardly two flights operated per day between Ratmalana and Palali and that too by a single aircraft.

But the flights have now been increased to eight, according to Wing Commander Ajith Wijesundera. One more aircraft had to be taken on lease to meet the increased passenger demand. The busiest times were the weekends.

Both the aircraft were of Russian origin-AN 24, each with a seating capacity for 48 passengers, and piloted by foreigners.
