More N-S Air Force flights by ANTON NONIS The Air Force has enhanced its internal flights to cope with the increasing number of passengers travelling from the North to the South following the government's peace efforts now in force. A few months ago, hardly two flights operated per day between Ratmalana and Palali and that too by a single aircraft. But the flights have now been increased to eight, according to Wing Commander Ajith Wijesundera. One more aircraft had to be taken on lease to meet the increased passenger demand. The busiest times were the weekends. Both the aircraft were of Russian origin-AN 24, each with a seating capacity for 48 passengers, and piloted by foreigners. (AN) |
