Mercedes Benz Golf April 20

The Mercedes Benz Trophy Golf, Sri Lanka finals will be held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) on Saturday, April 20. This tournament is sponsored by the Diesel and Motor Engineering Company, (DIMO), for the 11th successive year.

Captain of the RCGC, Lalith Ramanayake, speaking at the press briefing at the Club said that this tournament which was conducted for the past couple of years at Nuwara Eliya (due to massive renovations at the Colombo Club) thanked DIMOS for their lavish sponsorship and Ranjith Pandithage the CEO of DIMOS for all the encouragement.

"The winners and runners up of each handicap will get a wonderful opportunity of going abroad". Last year the regional championship was held in Brisbane, Australia. In 1994 I was fortunate to win the championship and won a trip to Taipei, Taiwan. People like Nick Faldo, Seve Balesteros have taken part in the Asian Championships," said Lalith Ramanayake.

This year's Sri Lanka country Stableford Golf Tournament will be conducted according to the following handicaps over 18 holes. Group A: 0-12 Group B : 13-20, Group C: 21-24

The winners and runners-up of each handicap will qualify for the "Asian Finals" to be held in Australia. The World Finals are scheduled to be held in Stuttgart, Germany where the winners of the Asian Finals will have the opportunity to participate. Last year, Nanda Karunaratne qualified for the World Finals in Stuttgart, Germany.

The other attractive prizes on offer are the Nearest to the Pin (9th hole), Longest drive (8th hole), Wooden Spoonist, Youngest Player, Oldest Player, and hole-in -one.

The winner of the hole-in-one will be offered a return air ticket to Germany, including a tour of the Mercedes Benz factory and the museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

The closing date for entries will be Wednesday April 17 at 18.00 hrs and the tournament will tee off at 6.45 hrs on April 20.
