Dialog launches GPRS roaming, selected by Lankan cricketers

Dialog GSM recently launched its first GPRS roaming partnership with Singapore Telecom Mobile (SingTel). With an international roaming service now covering over 100 countries, Dialog GSM is set to add GPRS services to its roaming arrangements with partner operators. This partnership is said to be one of the first of 10 such arrangements in the Asian region.

GPRS roaming will be offered to all inbound and outbound roaming subscribers travelling to and from Singapore.

The partnership enables Dialog GSM roamers to access SingTel's packet-based GPRS technology in Singapore and vice versa. Therefore, customers will have to pay only for the volume of data transacted as opposed to the time spent connected to the Net. The GPRS connection would also enable subscribers to be charged at the local rates of the local operator.

"A GPRS roaming relationship between the two networks will benefit both our subscribers, who will now be able to enjoy GPRS services when logged on to the Dialog GSM network, and for your subscribers in Singapore when logged on to the SingTel network," said Jaikishan Rajaraman, Product Manager - Consumer Products International, Singapore Telecommunications Limited.

The SingTel tie-up will reduce the cost of expensive data calls to check e-mail while roaming and will also enable subscribers to enjoy the benefits of GPRS, which include faster down-load speeds, instant connectivity to the Net and multi-media access.

"SingTel and Dialog GSM have agreed to waive all charges incurred by their respective subscribers when roaming on each other's GPRS networks and using the related value-added GPRS services of the other network until April 30," said Pradeep de Almeida, Manager - Network Operations MTN Networks.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Team has entered in to a new partnership with Dialog GSM, following the selection of the cellular operator as the official mobile communications and Internet Service Provider for the national team.

Under the sponsorship agreement, Dialog GSM would provide services including international roaming, WAP, SMS and GPRS technology apart from other standard GSM features and benefits to the national cricket team.
