More expatriate Tamils fly to Jaffna The Sri Lanka Air Force will operate six flights a day for the convenience of civilian passengers to Jaffna following the commencement of the peace process the Sunday Observer learns. More Tamil expatriates have returned to Jaffna during the recent past after more than a decade due to the war situation in the country. The SLAF has chartered another aircraft after the signing of the MoU between the Government and the LTTE, since there was a big demand from civilians to visit Jaffna. Earlier, there was only one aircraft to transport civilians - 48 passengers per flight twice a day to Jaffna. With the addition of a second aircraft, the flights have been increased upto eight per day. Meanwhile, transportation of troops by the SLAF continues as before. At least 750 soldiers travel eachway daily. |
